Solve : I can't access the "Add/Remove Programs" folder in Control Panel! Help...!?

Answer»

I get this error message when I try to access the "Add/Remove Programs" option under "Control Panel," and I quote:    An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll, Control_Run DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\appwiz,cpl", Add or Remove Programs"

I am running WINDOWS XP SP3.

I am sure I did something wrong when I deleted some "Duplicate Files" that Advance System Care found for me!

I need a computer hero's help!  ANYONE out there?  I would so appreciate it! Quote

Advance System Care

Stop using this...
Go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
Have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
Let it run to completion...remove the CD and re-boot.

REPORT BACK with the results.Er...I no LONGER has the XP Home CD.  Does this mean I'm out of luck?
Borrow one...completely legal to do so.O.K.  Thanks.  I will try to find one and then report my progress.  Thanks again. It's the best way to facilitate any needed repairs as the Recovery console and a Restore partition are pretty much useless in this case...

PS Make sure the versions MATCH...IE if you have Pro you need a Pro CD...Home version will not work...and vice versa.
