Solve : I can't boot my laptop with a usb floppy drive connected.?

Answer»

My computer is a compaq presario 2100. the operating system is Windows XP with SP2. Recently bought a HP USB Floppy Drive and when I CONNECTED it I could not boot up. I disconnected it and it booted uo normal. I then connected the FD hot and everything seems normal. The computer recognizes the drive and requests that a DISC be inserted. allseems to work normal. if I shut down I cannot boot with he drive connected but if I disconnect it then I can boot up and reconnect it. Is there anything I can do so I can leave the drive connected all time and be able to boot up without disconnecting the drive? thank you for any info.First make sure there isn't a floppy in the drive when you are trying to boot.
Second you may need to go into your BIOS before windows starts and change the boot ORDER so that it doesn't try to boot from floppy.
If that doesn't work try disabling Legacy USB Support in your BIOS.
If you don't know your way around your BIOS please let us know and don't change anything else.I really don't know my way around my bios. I know what they are but have never attempted to change them or even look at them. I would need very detailed instruction to change them. perhaps i had better just leave things the way they are and continue to connect the drive hot when i need to use it. I thank everyone sincerely for their help . I must say that this is the best Website I have ever logged onto. Please Keep up the good work it is much appreciated.
