I really need someone to help me who knows whats going on. If I leave my computer on for a few hours, I can't get online unless I restart. After a few days of this I will not be able to get online at all. I have DSL now, but have had this problem before with dial up. Last time I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows to resolve the issue. This time when I reformatted, it started again, the very same day. Is this some kind of awful virus? Maybe a windows issue? I really need help! Please.DEE OBerry.....Not much info except you have a problem.
What O/S are you using ? Have you scanned for Viruses , Adware  , Hijackers ?

dl65 I have Windows 98, and Norton antivirus. Supposedly there are no viruses on my computer. I haven't scanned for adware, I don't have any programs for that.How do u scan for hijackers?Dee OBerry.....Do you ever get any error messages when these shutdowns occur ? Have you noticed if your anti virus is shut down when this happens ?

dl65  It's not like I get shutdown, I just go to a site and I get a blank page or the message "this page cannot be DISPLAYED". I reformatted my computer yesterday, and this is still happenning, is it possible for viruses and spyware to remain after that?Dee OBerry.......Do you have M/S virtual machine installed on your pc or Java from sun systems ?
If you have done a clean install as opposed to a repair , the hard drive has been wiped clean. Did you get all the available updates from M/S after you formatted ?

Then, it happened again MERE weeks after i had refformated the hd. This time, however, i went to this site: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ and downloaded adaware se (the free version). It caught about 300 spyware bots on my computer. I deleted them all, and my internet worked. Good luck!what is ur os? where did u get ur computer from? maybe the os is from a pirated cd. last time i had a pirated os (WITHOUT knoing.... grrrrrrrrrrrr) and my computer kept restarting and couldn't run properly.Thankx u guys! The ad aware download really helped. I reformatted again and went online once, and I already had 19 items on my computer! That's a handy tool.Most likely tracking cookies. Thanks to Internet Explorer. Use Mozilla Firefox and configure it properly.

Yeah, after i got all the all the spyware off my pc, I SWITCHED to Firefox, and i haven't got any spyware on my computer since.Yes, same with me. Firefox ROCKS!
