Answer» Hey guys this is my first post here Well my problem im having really doesnt allow me to give you much description but I will give you what I know. I have a Gateway Laptop M 505 Intel Pentium M Processor 1500 mhz System Bios version 49.01.01. Recently this just started where when I try to turn on the computer it keeps going througha cycle of bringing me to the Gateway logo before windows and restarting over and over. I can INDEED hear the harddrive cranking away like it wants to load up Windows but no luck. I do have a Windows system restore CD which I tried using but im unsure of what commands to use on the CD. When I boot off the restore cd I make it to the C:\WINNT prompt and from there im not sure what to do. I have also tried to boot into safe mode but it does the same thing which is going to the gateway screen then rebooting. etc. I have no USB plugs plugged in currently because I know that sometimes can hinder things. I dont know guys any help would be great please.
Do you remember doing/adding anything before this started to happen? Can you get into the BIOS to check the temperature?Try this>>>>
To start your computer using the Last Known Good Configuration that your computer has on record, simply start up your computer like normal and when you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message come up, hit the F8 key on your keyboard. Next, the Windows Advanced Options MENU will appear and you can use your keyboard's arrow keys to SCROLL down to the "Last Known Good Configuration (your most RECENT settings that worked)" option. Once you've got it highlighted, press the Enter key on your keyboard.
Your computer will then boot up successfully and you'll be able to look into what caused the problem in the first place. Now, keep in mind that the Last Known Good Configuration feature does not automatically fix the problems you were having. It will only get your computer started so you can troubleshoot the rest of the problem on your own. Either way, it's an easy way to combat your computer startup troubles.I tried the last known good configuration and it still continue to not let me load up windows. I have not added any software or devices in quite some time. I cant seem to find the tempurature in the bios. There is something strange about your System Recovery CD, because, as I can read here: http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/Medialess/MLXPMC0/MLXPMC0su20.shtml after BOOTING with that CD, your first screen should look like this:
Ecardius:
It appears that your system is in an infinite boot loop. By default, if system encounters catastropic error during load it attempts to display error message then automatically restarts. If you disable the "automatic restart on system failure", you should see a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with error text and numbers (which currently is being masked by the quick restart). If you record those exactly as displayed you may be able to "google" for solutions.
Use the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option from the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" (some refer to this as Safe Mode Menu). Generally access by tapping F8 key about once a second during reboot.
This doesn't resolve your problem but may provide information to determine why it is rebooting so you can fix it without doing complete re-install of Windows.
