Solve : I cannot see anything besides my Windows XP background.?

Answer»

Hi, I have a problem. A few HOURS ago, I deleted a file from my computer (I think it was a pf file) called KEYGEN something. I thought it was hazardous because it was made at the time I open a DOWNLOADED file. After I deleted it from the Recycle Bin, my screen flashd and went blank. All I can see if the background picture. I use the Task Manager to open files. I then restarted the computer and ran a virus scan and a spyware scan. I restarted again and I still have this problem. Please help me.  Can you do , cntrl alt and del ......... if so go file new task run and type explorer... i dont have a clue if this will work for you because i dont know  whats wrong with your computer give it a shot...

Tony Nothing happens with that method.  I don't even see the explorer process in the Process Tray.yh thats because its not running , you did go to file and type it in run right....... and then hit enter ...

Tony So,Have you tried booting in safemode and restoring to an
earlier time?Downloading is fraught with dangers.   Here's a quote about Keygens

"A keygen (a portmanteau of "key generator") is a small program that will generate a CD key or serial/registration number for a piece of software or cryptographic algorithm.

Keygens are made available by software cracking GROUPS for free download on various websites dedicated to software piracy."

Am not sure yet what the cure for your problem is but hey!!!!

Please list all the protection programs you currently have installed on that machine. Quote from: Richenstony on August 04, 2007, 10:40:40 PM

No, I haven't tried that. But I do not know how. I forgot how to put into safe mode and I hhave never had to restore.

It wasn't a keygen that I downloaded. -_- And that doesn't help me in any way.

Please list all the protection programs you currently have installed on that machine.

AdAware SE Personal, SpyBot Search & Destroy, and ZoneAlarm Firewall.DLoad ; install ; update and run the following:

AVG Free
or Avast.  Select only one.

CCleaner

AVG Anti-Spyware

Run all the scans and let them fix what they find.
After that run DISK defragmenter.

Post back with the results.

p.s. All the above programs are FREE.You get into safemode by continually tapping your F8 key while the computer is first booting.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htmI'm sorry that I haven't replied, but I have been searching for a method to unistall my ZoneAlarm Firewall because it has not been able to allow the new virus-scanners without me letting it do so. But I haven't been seeing the warning and I want to unistall it. I cannto access the CONTROL Panel through Windows and the "control" function in Run. Is there another way to access the Control Panel?ZA uninstallThanks everyone for helping me. I have found the viruses (2 trojans that were both cleaned/deleted) and I defraged with IOBit SmartDefrag, then restarted, and everything was working fine. I unistalled ZoneAlarm from a feature on CCleaner.
