Solve : I dumped vista and loaded XP Pro.... NOT WORKING...HELP?

Answer»

I have a new HP Pavilian A1700N that CAME with Vista home premium, my wife wanted XP pro on it so I dumped vista and loaded XP, now I can not FIND the drivers for the modem or the ethernet card that will install in XP pro. What do I do now? mattman....... Are you able to boot up XPpro ?     If so, go into the device manager and see if the ethernet adapter shows up ........ it may give you the model ...... and then we can find you the correct driver.
You might also try hp's online help from another machine and they should be able to tell you what driver is required .

dl65  Yes,I can get into xp pro, I'll try to get that info and get back to you.
Thank you!I don't find the ethernet adapter listed, the network adapter is listed, will that help?same thing.

Did you visit the HP site? That is the only place to start. All it list's is 1394 network adapter, and yes I did go to HP and the only download drivers I could find were for vista...I did try to install them on Xp but got the mes. "the XP OS did not support this download?"  Would a new ethernet card that supports XP pro work if I INSTALLED it? That is the only solution guaranteed to work. 1394 is firwire.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireWireThank you for the info! I'll check it out and let you know how it turns out! Thanks again! We'll leave the light on.  The network adapter that you mentioned is an on-board (on the motherboard) and you'll need to install the chipset drivers for your computer. Go to (I LOOKED at the specs on the computer) so it's probably running an nVidia nForce 4 AMD chipset. I checked the HP site and they only showed support on Vista..so I can't say 100% but it is more then likely running that chipset and that will get the network adapter up and running or should..Read above    . He already tried the appropriate downloads and was prompted that it was NOT compatible with XP.
