Solve : I get this error when I try to reinstall XP.?

Answer»

I have a laptop.
The specs are

CPU-p4 650 3.4GHZ
Ram 2GB
HD 2X 100GB SATA 5200
VID. Card NVIDIA GO 6800 Ultra.
Clevo 900 motherboard.

Here is my problem.

I tried to reinstall windows, so I put in the XP disk and resatrted the computer. It tries to install but before I get to the screen when it says agree/disagree I get this error message. What do I do? I tried CHKDSK but it detected nothing wrong. The hard drive is not seated correctly, he hard drive has problems, or there is a RAM problem, or a failed IDE controller.

#1 is the most likely. What happened prior to all of this? I have an old Dell laptop that if grabbed correctly pulls the hard drive caddy out just enough to cause this.

You can also boot with the XP CD (if you got one!) and run chkdsk from the recovery console.

You can also download a free RAM tester a www.memtest86.com

Let us know!Hi.. My Name is Maksim... And this might help... I had the same problem.... Everytime I try to reinstall my computer... It displays the message... the one thing that someone told me is to use... "Wipe 0" I'm not sure if you are familiar with this program...(Have a read "Wipe is a secure file wiping utility." It worked and this might be eisier and it might help too... Try reformating the hard drive... through the win xp cd... and it should work... It worked for me...

P.S. If you dont know alot about how to format a hard drive or use a Wipe 0 My advice  to you.. is to ask someone to help you....

Which make and model, and have you run DIAGNOSTIC tests on the ram and hard drives?how do i use wipe 0?
Also it wont let me reinstall it from the cd or reformate the HD because of the volume still in use.Huh? If you are booting from the CD the volume is not in use.  :-?when I boot from the cd i cant, the same error comes up. Also I tried A floppy MS DOS boot disk but it said something about the wrong media cannot read C.
