Solve : I installed the wrong system?

Answer»

I was recovering my husbands pc back to factory and I used the wrong cds to reinstall his system. I used my laptop cd's instead and now he can't play WoW. His system is showing up as Dell Inspirion 1545 and it is supposed to be a Dell Inspirion Desktop 545MT. Now I cannot find his CDs for his computer. Is there anyway that I can get his computer back to factory now? My WARRANTY just ended about a month ago too... Check if his computer has a RECOVERY partition (a sometimes hidden part of the HARD drive that works like the restore CDs).

If not, and you still can't find the CDs, you might be able to order a new set of CDs from Dell. How do I check that? Quote from: jenlynn_m766 on August 28, 2011, 10:06:42 PM

The manual that came with the computer should have information on that. I'm trying to DOWNLOAD a copy of the manual now, but their support site is running rather slow for me. I'll keep trying.Ok, from what I read, this should work if the restoration CDs you used didn't erase or overwrite the restoration partition.

When the computer is booting, push F8 repeatedly until you get to the Advanced Boot Menu. Use the arrow keys to choose the option "Repair Your Computer" and press enter. Follow the on screen prompts and see if that works to restore the original 545MT system.Just a reminder, doing this will erase EVERYTHING current on the computer. Back up anything you need before doing the restore.
