Solve : i need help, please!?

Answer»

Hi, I have a serious problem with my laptop. When I turn it on, it boots up and Windows XP startup screen is shown. However, instead of loading windows, it just stays BLACK. The screen is still on, but there is nothing, not even a cursor. i've managed to RUN something called pc angel, which says it's backing up data, then starting setup recovery. This also stops and just switches to a black screen. I really don't want to reinstall windows, as there are a lot of files i need. Is there any WAY of rescuing it? Thanks for any help,
SusanWell,you can save all the information with one of
these-->Adaptor

Can you boot in safemode ?PC Angel on their website claim to have INSTALLATIONS on 65% of the personal PC's in the U.S. and i've never heard of it...
if you have the installation disc's can you not try a repair installation which if done correctly will keep all your data, emails settings etc in place. Thanks for the help. I can't get to the installation discs, they are at my house at uni. We still have the installation discs for this computer though, will they work? (Both comps have XP).

p.s. I can't boot in SAFE mode
If they are MS XP CD's this will work if the versions are the same Pro/Pro.
If they are OEM discs such as HP, Compaq they will wipe everything on the drive including any programs you have installed.
