Answer» i need to know how to retrieve my documents.[/color] i turned on my computer which was working perfectly the night before ,and on a black screen read( on the lines of ) " system32\hal.dll file corrupted reinstall from windows CD" i turn my computer off and on again 50 times, and i tried to exit the screen, which didn't work. so i put in the boot CD and FOLLOWED the steps. now i have documents in C: so i reinstalled windows on D: thinking it would fix the problem or just take the corrupted file from D: so windows finally starts up i open C: and not a single document is there. when i go to the properties of C: it reads [3.28 GB free ; 9.76 GB] so that means my stuff is still there TAKING up space in C:. right? how do i find it? WINDOWS is starting up in D: as the main drive how to i start off C: again? I've tried the search option on the C: drive. my documents include PICTURES, music, movies, and notes. another point is that my windows copy is not original, yet its been working with me for sometime.
I'm literally in tears, appreciate any help.Quote from: skull kitty my windows copy is not original Not sure what you mean by thisYou should be able to ACCESS the drives and files with "my computer"
You should also have a boot menu on start up so you can chose the drive you want to boot to....if not try tapping F2 during the start up process.
I suggest you buy a legal disk for windows and not use COPIES. Sooner or later Windows Advantage Tool update will shut down your computer.
