Solve : Icon changed on Microsoft Outlook?

Answer»

I'm not sure how this has happened (probably by one of my sons) but the Microsoft Outlook icon (which was on the bottom toolbar on the desktop) disappeared.
When I tried to find the icon it was nowhere to be seen so I looked in the office folder, with in programs (from the start menu).
To my surprise the orange icon had gone and in its place was the icon that denotes NOTHING is associated with the program (see attachment below).
I have no idea how to restore this.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

[year+ old attachment deleted by admin]Have you tried this

Right click each faulty icon
select "Properties"
click "Change icon"
in the file browse dialog that OPENS, navigate to the Microsoft Office folder under Program Files
select Outlook.exe as the source of the icon, and then select the right icon from the set that appears in a box.

Hi Salmon,

I tried this but the button to 'change icon' is greyed out and I can not click it.

What is the 'start in' box? Where do you see it?

Are you using an administrative account? The 'start in' box is on the shortcut tab within properties
Yes, I am an administrator.Quote from: dgreen on June 10, 2012, 09:14:13 AM

OK, I believe that's normal. I have Office 2007 installed on my Windows 7 system and my Start in box for Outlook is empty. For some info on this, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283065Thanks.
Any idea how to get the icon back?If you have a Restore Point from a date before this happened, you could restore your system from it. Here's a reference on this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/system-restore

Another option: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-rebuild-icon-cache-in-windows-7-to-repair-icons/I just did a system restore but the icon is still wrong !
I also tried deleting the iconcache but nothing changed..... For some strange and unknown reason the icon has come back.... spooky !
Thanks everyone for your help!
