Solve : icon changing?

Answer»

I want to change my icons without using shortcuts.

When I change my icons through the tools>folder options>file types some of the icons I change turn into windows SEARCH. How do I change icons without this happening?

Operating Sys: XPQuantumSpectre......... Could you provide an example of exactly what icon you wish to change ...and what icon you wish to change it to.

dl65 I would like to change file type icons, hard drive icons, and other hardware icons (cd-rom drive; etc). I want to change these icons to a new set of icons that I downloaded.

I've successfully changed this icons in the past, but I had to system restore because of adverse effects. Some of the icons I changed automatically switch their association to windows search.

I've tried changing icons this way before
windows explorer menu bar tools>folder options>files types...(then selecting and changing icons). But each resulted in me having to system restore. I was locked out of my hard drive when I changed that icon. I could only search.

How can I change all of my icons without receiving this adverse effect?

Thank you.

P.S. Let me know if I should be more specific.

QuantumSpectre ........ I just did a quick bit of research on your issue and from what I have seen and read, it can be done ok, HOWEVER usually there is a detailed set of instructions included in the d/l to walk you through the changes .

Which set of icons did you d/l ? please provide a link to it if you would .

dl65 I downloaded the icons from: 2s-Space.com

more specifically: http://www.2s-space.com/studiov2/download_icons.asp?did=1
I downloaded the: Darkness Windows Icons
Format: ico

*notices the smiley* ...sorry, hope this is not too much trouble.QuantumSpectre ..... well , I just d/led that set and changed the icon on my test machine to what is called the hard drive icon ....with no problems ..... ( BTW thats a tower icon ....not a hard drive ) ........ and I followed your instructions ......

dl65 Some icons and file types I can change without the problem occuring; however if I change the drive icon display. When I click on (c:) from windows explorer it searches.

Any idea why my computer is doing this instead of working correctly?
Do you know how I can fix it? QuantumSpectre.......
