Solve : IE cannot connect to the web page?

Answer»

On about the 12th or 13th of last month I suddenly couldn't open the IE web page.  I am connected to the net using Verizon wireless.  I had to take the computer to Staples where they downloaded Firefox so I could get on LINE and download IE.  After I downloaded IE7 it still wouldn't download the web page.  I have Spybot running and on occasion it will say that a registry file will be changed and I can either allow the change or deny it.  This MAY have happened right before IE became unusable.  The computer also shows several restore points, and attempts to restore to a chosen date, but then says it was not restored.  Need help. So, Staples installed Firefox on your computer, right?  Can you get online with Firefox?  Do you have IE 7 installed now?Yes, I am online with Firefox.  I downloaded a new IE 7 using Firefox, but it still will not connect to the web page. Do you have problems ACCESSING just ONE webpage/website with IE or all webpages/websites?

Delete your browser cache settings: from within IE: Tools>Internet Options>GENERAL Tab>Browsing History>Delete.

If the above doesn't work, try to reset IE - from within IE: Tools>Internet Options>Advanced Tab>Reset; this will de-activate all browser add-ons and clear your browser cache files. If IE works this way, add back your browser add-ons one-by-one until you get to the problematic one. Then, either don't use it or get a fresh version.

Once you are able to use IE, consider using FF anyway - it is faster than IE and many people think that it is more secure; just something to think about.

Good luck.
