Couple days AGO my cousin was messing with my bios settings. And somehow MESSED it up. Everytime you restarted the computer you would get this diskette drive 0 seek failure. so we just left it as is. Until our web browsers started crashing every 5 minutes. I thought it was just mozilla so i tried opera but i couldnt install it due to it being corrupt.

So i rebooted/reformatted my computer During the copy phaise some files couldnt be copied correctly so i had to skip the files. After windows was installed i tried to install my old programs like aim and mozilla. etc etc but i couldnt because an error message would pop up saying "file is corrupt". So i once again reformatted my computer this time after the "to install a fresh copy of windows xp press enter thing" it would give me a NFTS.sys crash. i tried to reboot again and it worked but still the copy phaise some files i had to skip. Now sometimes on reboot it would give me that NFTS.sys error. and still some programs wont install correctly. does anyone KNOW whats wrong with my computer?!?!?!

I am using windows xp on a dell demin 8400Hah, how funny, I have the exact same computer. Okay, when you formatted the drive, what exactly did you do? Did you try to format from windows, or did you put in the windows CD and format it from there?

By the way, the Dell Dimension 8400 has a restrictive BIOS that doesn't allow you to change very many critical settings, and the ones that you can change that would CAUSE a negative impact would just cause the computer to not boot at all. I tried them all to see what would happen, haha.LOl i tried to reboot from the cd. Idk what to do now man i cant play cs anymore =[Well, what seems to have happened is you didn't reinstall windows correctly. If you already formatted once, I think you might want to try again.

Put your OS disk in, and reboot your computer. Up in the right-hand corner, there should be a message of what keys to press to enter the boot options menu, usually F8 or F12. Press the key indicated (the "F" keys are in a row at the top of your keyboard) until you get to the boot options menu. Then, select to boot from "CD/DVD drive" or a similar option. A blue screen with a grey bar at the bottom should come up, showing the various files it is loading. After it finishes this, it will show the options to format your drive, and to install windows. First, use the format option on the partition that windows is installed on, (it should be marked as having the windows installation), then select to install windows when it is done formatting.

Since you're having problems:

A. MAKE sure the Installation CD is clean.

B. If the disk is clean, and it still fails to copy files, (giving an error like Cyclical Redundancy Check Error, etc.), or it locks up during the format, this may indicate a hardware problem rather than software. If this happens, it simply may be coincidence, and your cousin didn't mess up anything at all. Corruption errors like these may in fact just be a hard drive going bad. In this case, it would be best to just replace the hard drive.
