Answer» HP NOTEBOOK (dv 4000 series, XP) has its own help+support center that includes Microsoft help; it searches several databases. Had to restore XP to my computer after a hard-drive crash,so had to reinstall the HP H+S center from the orig disk. Since then, when I clickon the "Index" tab, the cursed white box with the demonic red X appears.
(I have read and followed the directions in another post re. the same PROBLEM with graphic files but my internet options were fine. I am allowing all pictures, including html, to download, have checked to be sure java is enabled, etc).
I right-clicked the x: the properties begin with an html icon rep. the index, followed by "Unavailable." Protocol is "Unknown Protocol." The address given is hcp://system/panels/subpanels/index.html. I searched the system files on my computer, but no LUCK. I went on line, but, as I suspected, that's not a valid url.
Next, I uninstalled the help and support center from my computer, downloaded it from the Hewlett-Packard website, and reinstalled it. When I clicked on Index, keeping my fingers crossed, I was INSANELY dismayed to find the white box, red x again.
I have searched the forums on the HP website to no avail, nor is there anything on topic in the Microsoft help+support center--I've taken all the steps, as far as I know, but have probably overlooked something as plain as the nose on my face. What have I done??? Thanks in advance for your help.
