Solve : Installing Vista Ultimate?

Answer»

Hey guys I am having trouble installing Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition on my computer. I have a Dell E520 with a Intel Core 2 CPU at 2.13 ghz and 4 gigs of RAM. When I insert the 64-bit CD it says "Setup can not run on this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media." I am currently running Vista Home PREMIUM 32-bit and just want to upgrade. Setup works if I try to install the 32-bit version of Ultimate however. Do I not have the specs needed to install 64-bit? THANKS!You need 64-bit processor to do that. Quote

ummm, have you tried booting from the CD? it sounds to me like you simply started the CD while in windows.

broni is correct, we need to know what model your CPU is to make sure it is 64 bit capable.
to find out what your CPU is...

START > RUN > TYPE "devmgmt.msc" without the quotes> hit the + sign on the left hand side of "processors," your processors make/model number should then be shownBefore you install 64bit vista, your hardware should ALSO be in 64bit achitecture. because you cannot install a 64bit OS on a 32bit hardware.
