Solve : internet ports not working?

Answer»

Hey,

I'm having alot of problems with getting my FTP to work and also connecting to my websites webmail, phpMyAdmin, and cPanel.

When i connect to my FTP it will connect (some times) but can't load any of the directories. This is some of my FTP log.

Quote

Response:      227 Entering Passive Mode (70,86,12,226,200,193)
COMMAND:      LIST
Error:      Transfer channel can't be opened. Reason: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
Error:      Could not retrieve directory listing
Command:      PWD

And when i TRY to access any of the webmail etc areas i get a timed out error in my browser. I have talked to both my host, who said nothing is wrong and they can't reproduce the error and my ISP who says that are not blocking any ports.

This started happening a month or two ago.

I have tried to add port 21 (for FTP) to my windows firewall  but it still doesn't help any,.

I really haven'ta clue what to do and no one else seems to have an answer for me.

Hopefully someone here can help me out!

Gaia:

FTP uses two ports: 21 for sending commands, and 20 for sending data. Configure your firewall to allow access through both ports.

DocHave you tried accessing your ftp server with IE?hey,

Thanks for the replies.

When i am adding the FTP ports to Windows FireWall, which do i set them as? UDP or TCP?

Also, i tried accessing my /cpanel through IE and again, i cannot gain access to it.Just to Add.

My Log folder does not contain any files?

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318380I have no idea what /cpanel is?
Is your computer completely free of viruses & malware?sorry, /cpanel as in www.mydomain.com/cpanel. As i previously said, it has nothing to do with my host as i can't access anyone's cpanel on any domain and everyone else can access it. (same as with my www.mydomain.com/webmail)

I ran a virus and spyware check but nothing. Quote

Gaia:

FTP uses both the TCP and UDP protocol on ports 20 and 21:

Why not just temporarily disable the firewall to SEE if FTP will work then?  If it does, then you know the firewall is the cause of the problem and you may concentrate on reconfiguring it correctly.

Doc
Hmmm maybe it's not my firewall then as that didn't do anything when i disabled it. Though what else could it be?

I just don't understand becuase sometimes i can connect to FTP and it works fine and then it will just suddenly not work.

Same with the /webmail, /cpanel, etc.

What else could be "blocking" the ports? Quote

Your ports are fine.
What did you use to scan for nasties?Spybot and Panda Anti-virus Titanium.Give ewido a shot.
http://www.ewido.net/en/wow that's a nice program, got 22 some spyware and trojans.

Thanks for the link.nvm got rid of it. Turns out i had a trojan on one of my ports which was causing my internet to mess up.
