Both Firefox 2.0.0.11 and IE7 will display "cannot display this page" but, MSN messenger and Full Tilt poker are still working. I click on connection and it looks normal, still working. I click on diagnose and repair and it thinks for a long time and then comes up with a window that says it cannot connect to Microsoft. The only solution to this problem that I have found is to do a hard reset(meaning just hold down the power button). If I just select reset or shutdown the computer seems to lock-up and sits on the shutting down screen. I also tried to hibernate the system and the same thing seems to happen since the system just stays on and doesn't shut off. I am on broadband through Quest now, but I just moved and this was happening before with my Cable one Broadband. Also, my desktop has a wireless card and this problem comes even if I have it turned off I've tried to search on this but I think my wordage might be causing too many other hits because I can't find anything similar. The only solution to this problem that I have found is to do a hard reset(meaning just hold down the power button)

1. Run free ESET Online Scanner at: http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

1. You will notice that the "Start" button is grayed out. Place a check mark at "Yes, I accept the Terms of USE". The "Start" button will become visible. Click on it.
2. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
3. You will be asked to install an ActiveX, click the "Install" button (Note: If you have a Firewall install you may have to approve the installation)
4. Once ActiveX control is installed click on the "Start" button to initialize the scanner
5. After initialization is COMPLETE uncheck\untick "Remove found threats"
6. Check\tick "Scan unwanted applications"
7. Click the "Scan" button
8. Once the scan is done, you will find a log in C:\Program Files\esetonlinescanner\log.txt

2. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:

Print these instructions out.

* Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.

But you'll lose all settings, and bookmarks so save all you want before you do this.

MSN messenger works, so your internet connection isn't the problem. It's probably computer/browser issue. Try and see if IE7 will work now.I use firefox almost exclusively. Have reset IE7, we'll see if that helps - the problem is kind of random, so we'll just have to wait and see.Got up this morning and the computer was in the same snag again - firefox and IE7 just showed "cannot display the page" and my MSN messenger was up and running. I went into the device manager and verified that the ethernet and wireless cards have up to date drivers.

If it's connected through the router, connect it straight to the modem.
Disconnect modem from the power source. Wait 1 minute. Power it on.
Restart computer.
Go Start>Run, type in:
cmd
Click OK.
At the Command Prompt, type in:
ipconfig /release (there is a "space" after "ipconfig")
Hit Enter
Type in:
ipconfig /renew
Hit Enter.
See, if you can connect.
