Answer» I have a HP computer using Windows xp . A week ago there was a lighting strike close to my home . Since then I cannot get on to the internet . When I go into my control panel it states that I have lost my local connection . I then had my modem REPLACED thru my CABLE company . They stated that I still have a problem with my local connection and suggested that I replace my ethernet port . I had this done , but still cannot connect to the internet . I need help !Mad I don't think it has anything to do with lighting strike....
Try reinstalling you ROUTER if you have not already...
Disconnect every thing, turn router of, and then turn BACK on hit repair in network properties ! Is it a modem or router, if its a router, can you connect locally to it across the LAN, if its a modem, is the phone line its self ok? is the correct number for dialing out in use/ is it broadband? I'm really new at this . Sorry for the confusion . I am not wireless , so I do not have a router. Also, my internet connection is broadband .u don't have to be wireless to have a router ?
Its like a thing your computer connects to
you must install your router. in network placesSorry about that . I have a modem .I am really sorry will get sorted just to clarify you have dial up then 56K How was the Ethernet port replaced ? ? Did a shop do this or did you do it yourself ? ? Did you RECIEVE a driver CD for the new Ethernet device ? ?
If so try re-installing the drivers.
