Answer» Hi everyone, I am having a problem getting my desktop pc to accept an IP from my modem. I have tried using ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew to no avail. I get an error message saying there is an issue with the DHCP server. I am using Vista. I have verified the modem is working as I am directly connected to it right now using my wife's Macbook Pro. Any help would be greatly appredicated! Thanks!Full error, please.Sure, it SAYS: "An error occurred while renewing interface Primary Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."
"Primary Connection" is what I named my Local Area Connection 1.Anyone have an idea? This is driving me nuts!!! At command prompt, type in: ipconfig /all Hit Enter.

----- That's all of it. Suffice it to say, thank god for flash drives. I had started out typing it all since I couldn't email it and was thinking, "Man, I really wish floppy disks were still popular." till I remembered the Flash Drives that have replaced them. Try WinsockFix: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257 Obviously, you have to get it from working computer. When I run WinSockFix I get a message saying "Registry Import Information not Found". It then continues running and at the end it says "Repair Completed Please Reboot". When I hit OK, it says "Run-time error '53': FILE Not Found". I still tried rebooting but it didn't change anything. One more try... At Command Prompt, type in: netsh int ip reset Hit Enter. Restart computer, and see, if it helped.Same thing, same IP address. Should I just do a fresh install? /bummed outYeah, something wrong here. Are you the lucky (one of a few) OWNER of Vista DVD? Sure am, made sure to order that when I bought vista. Then, you have some repair options, listed here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html BTW...have the connection ever worked?Yea, it worked all the way till last night when i...GASP...updated windows....In that case, you may try System Restore.
