Solve : IP problems!? |
|
Answer» To the point. Received a used laptop with WIN XP. Could not release IP address (ipconfig /release) at home with Comcast service. Tech tried to help to no avail. Was told card probably bad. Took it to BEST buy to the G Squad. They released it, and got it working on their network. Returned home - can not release. Took it back to Best Buy - ran WinFixto reset registries. Worked again in the store. Came home - once again no luck. No /release or /renew. Please help with any suggestions. THANK you.Do you have another card to try with? It could be finnicky. XP wont configure cards to the network I use (I dont know enough to say why) But I found that if I manually set the IP, DNS, Gateway, it works insteasd of relying on windows to assign it a static IP... sometimes Windows just thinks to hard about stuff and screws it all up... because it microsoft and all of their software has glitches and bugs in it.At Best Buy all they did was go to command and typed:ipconfig /release which released the default IP and then ipconfig /renew. I can not get the computer to repeat this at home. It simply will not release and assign a new IP. Any suggestions besides manually setting all the numbers for IP, DNS and others. Thank you.see it doesnt work for me either, but i haven't figured out y so.What does it say when you type ipconfig /release in the command prompt? B.It simply brings up the the default IP numbers. It will not zero out or renew.how old is this machine??Is this an add on card that they put in another machine ? ? Or did they do this in the laptop ? ? There is a space between the function and command IE: ipconfig /release =ipconfig (space) /release.The machine is an HP Pavilion and is 4 about yrs old with a PIII 1.2Ghz. Best Buy/Geek Squad did it on this machine, with a card that obviously works which came with the laptop. And yes, I know that there is a space in command win it is just that it does nothing to release.y dont you just reformat... have you ever reformatted it? thatll clean up alot of stuff off the hhd. and maybe fix the problem.I was hoping not to have to do that but I believe that I might have to. |
