Is it possible to connect to Xbox Live through a laptop?

Like many people I have an Xbox 360 and PLAY Xbox Live. I recently heard that it was possible to connect to Xbox Live through a laptop computer as an alternative to buying a $100 wireless network adapter. I connect to Xbox live through an ethernet cable and therefore I am limited to one room in my HOUSE, but I would like to be able to play in other places. I figured using my laptop's wireless INTERNET connection would be a great alternative, but it has proven rather difficult. I haved scoured google and everything I'm told that will work doesn't. I've tried bridging my wireless connection to my LOCAL area connection and playing with all the settings, without success. And I've tried windows XP's network internet connection wizard many times. I have seen on many other blogs people who have the same problem as me and also have been unsuccessfull. This post is part of many attempts to try and find a solution so any help would be greatly appreciated.
As for myself, I'm using a Dell Latitude C840 running Windows XP connected wirelessly to a router.
