On that note, do you have the Windows XP CD?XP3 works like charm for a month now.

but the comp is my mum's and a lot of the software she has on it, she dont have the Cds for anymore
and i got my exams coming up soon
so i dont want to do ANYTHING major just yet, unless thers no other solution
all of my coursework and stuff are on it anyways

and i FOUND a load of corrupted keys to do with norton...
gonna try and get rid of it now, i'll tell u guys if it helpsYES!
1hr after trawling thru my REGISTRY and deleting corrupted keys
my device manager works now! yay!
