Solve : Java script applet?

I wound up recently with Java (Sun)  JRE   1.50-08 and just below
it  (on INTERNET options LIST under Http 1.1)  something called Microsoft VM

Now I get frequent "Java Update Checker"  flashing up.

I had previously read that Java script should NOT be installed;  now I
am confused.   What does it do -  is it good or bad ?

The Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, or MS Java VM, should be removed due to it no longer being supported by Microsoft. It has become obsolete which leaves it open to EXPLOIT by MALWARE. Check for and remove the Microsoft VM

INSTALL the new Sun Java Runtime Environment

Be sure to close all browser windows before beginning the install.

Remove the old version(s)

  • Go to add/remove programs and uninstall all old versions.
  • Be sure not to remove the new version that was just installed.
  • Download JavaRa.zip and unzip the file to your Desktop.
  • Open JavaRA.exe and choose Remove Older Versions
  • Once complete exit JavaRA and delete the program.
Thank you.  Sounds like you know your stuff.  However---I don't know
mine.
Went into  add/remove in control panel -  found NOTHING that said:
Microsoft Virtual Machine or Ms Java VM.  Looked in Windows file also and
it wasn't  there.  Checked IE internet options and scrolled down to:

Microsoft VM - with subs there of 1. Jave console enabler  2. Java logging
enabler and 3.  Jit compiler for VM enabler.   The only thing checked was
#3 ----so will unchecking that  be the same thing as removing Microsoft VM ?Install the new version, run JavaRA then check check IE internet options again.
