Answer» can a master be set to a slave? i changed the jumper to slave but it seems it wants to read it as a master loading windows xp when im running windows vista A bit more info on how this is set up would be helpful...heck you may even wind up with a solution...I took the hard drive out of an old HP(Windows XP). When I took it out it looked like a double hard drive,or there were 2 of them within a bracket. So i think there was a master and a slave? So I CRACKED my NEW HP (Windows vista) open and connected just the slave(from the old HP) so that i could get some pics from it.It worked just fine.i felt like a genius. then i went to connect just the master(from the old HP) but first switch the jumper to the slave setting.but this time it didnt work.it wanted to load windows xp.or reading the hard drive as primary(am i Making any sense?)so i panicked and turn the computer off now im trying to figure it out. why did it work the first time?is it because the slave was already a slave and has no PROBLEM going from one computer to the next.or maybe you cant make master an instant slave. this screen pops up first.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t166/dennisromero408/DSC03367.jpg thanks for all your helpSometimes the BIOS GETS confused when swapping/adding HDD's... try a few cold boots with it set as slave and see if it works... If no luck the drive itself may have problems...cold boots? to start the computer after it's had a long rest?A few minutes is fine...i gave it a cold boot and NOTHING. the hard drive cant be fixed?
