Solve : Keeps Restarting...?

Answer»

:-?I have Windows XP, and whenever I turn it on, & put in the password it'll begin starting up, but before it does, it'll resart.  I keep putting in the password, so it'll start up, but it keeps restarting...   I don't know why.   I can't boot into Safe Mode, or the Last Known Good Configureation or anything like that, because it'll just restart before it does...   I'm really fustrated with it because I just bought an Ipod, but cannot use it...     Can Someone Please Help Me Out Here?

Thanx,

Computer viruses such as the blaster virus are written to reboot your computer without warning. Usually these viruses will make the computer reboot ever 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes after the computer has booted.

If you believe your computer may be infected with a virus or are uncertain if your computer is infected with a virus make sure your virus scanner definitions are up to date.

Maxell....  ok , lets see if we have any OPTIONS available ......
you have Win Xp installed ........
do you have SP2 and all the latest updates ?
What anti virus do you have installed and is it up to date ?
Have you experienced any issues with your machine recently ?  ...anything at all odd ?
Exactly what happens when you attempt to boot into Safe mode ?
Do you have the original win xp disks available if required ? not a copy .
Is this machine part of a network and if it is are you the administrator ?
How old is the machine and what is it ?

If you can fill in the answers ,we can see what options if any are available to you .

I have Norton anti-virus, can't tell if it's up to date, though; can't get to desktop.  Only been experiencing this problem, other than this, it's a great system.  When I attempt to boot into safe mode the same thing happens as when I boot into regular mode, or any other mode.  It will restart before anything loads.  I just got the full version of XP from a friend, which is most likely original.  It's a lone PC that's only two years old and its an LG.  It restarts in like 10-15 seconds after I turn it on, so I have no time to do anything.

Well, that's like being "kind of pregnant". It either is or it isn't. Does it have a hologram on it and say Microsoft in big letters? Did you get the COA with it? Is it installed on another machine?  Maxell:

I agree with dcihon that it could be a computer virus.  I had a customer with a virus doing the same thing to her PC this week.  There is one other possibility: a hardware problem.  The power supply might be going bad, or the processor might be overheating.  Have the power supply fan, case fans, or processor fan stopped working?

DocYes, It is an original XP cd.  The fan does work, power supply I'm not sure about.

MaxellIf you have a floppy drive, and a friend with an antivirus scanner that lets you make a anti-virus removal bootable disk, then ask them to make one for you. This disk(s) will scan for and remove most known viruses if the disk is up to date.

(Norton and McAfee both have the virus removal disk feature. Normally, it is called a rescue disk. )I had a problem like this where my COMP would just randomly shut down and sometimes I'd have to wait a few minutes before it would let me turn it back on, then it would shut down again... I looked inside and it was really dusty so I hoovered my fans and it stopped doing it. Maybe you can try that ?I dont recoment you VACUME your PC if its very dusty use a paint brush , or compressed AIR, the nosel on a vacume and create Static Electricity and that can do damage  i am having this exact same problem i think. i start it up and it goes to a black screen asking how to proceed, normally, safe mode, or the last working mode. and then after choosing normal or last working it goes to the windows loading page for a few seconds, then restarts all over again before it gets a chance to continue.Let's eliminate this as a issue.
Go to this site and FOLLOW the instructions.
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.mspxthat may work if i could get past the startup page. halfway through the windows loading page it restarts, making it impossible to do anything.Try this :
Format the drive
Then Install windows and DO NOT have it connected to the internet.
See if it works without being connected to the internet.
You can get this virus within 15 seconds of being online.will this get rid of all my documents and settings? and how do i format the drive?
