Have you tried this yet ? ? it's either F1 or F2 normally to get to setup,,, Quote from: patio on July 31, 2012, 06:59:20 PM Have you tried this yet ? ? it's either F1 or F2 normally to get to setup,,, i already tried replacing the battery. i cant enter setup bcoz the pc scanning for the attached drives.and i cant go on to another choice bcoz it prompts me first to save the changes.but im going to try that again now. thanks patio!Good evening vixen24 and welcome back OK here is a pic of your motherboard you may want to check to see if the "CMOS jumper" fell off or maybe it is set to "clear position" . The jumper will have "3" pins but the jumper will only go ON 2 of them on this image the jumper is E49 If there is no jumper that can be why it is not saving the changes you are making. If I remember right on that PC to get into the BIOS it is the "F10" key and when you make changes it may be the "F10" key again to save the changes If the jumper is missing a jumper from a old harddrive or old motherboard should work. Maybe this is why it is always scanning for hardware changes when you are starting the PC Just in-case you want it. Here is the link to your system it gives you a brake down of it http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11948_div/11948_div.HTML Please let us know how you make out, Mike im having trouble looking for the CMOS jumper.il try to upload the pic on monday.. since im really having a great trouble with my mouse and keyboard, i tried to install the hard disk to another pc.a notification appeared tells that a file had been corrupt.the hal.dll..i tried to go to recovery console to copy the missing file to drive c but a notification appeared cannot find the file.i even tried to make the hard disk slave to open the disk but i cannot find the windows folder. is the hard disk needs to reformat?when i tried a different hard disk and tried to go to recovery console,it prompts me where to open windows (allows me to hit 1) but the drive that im fixing it has no promptGood morning vixen24 and welcome back to CH If I am understanding your last posts correct Quote from: vixen24 on August 13, 2012, 12:20:29 AM when i tried a different hard disk and tried to go to recovery console,it prompts me where to open windows (allows me to hit 1) but the drive that im fixing it has no promptis this hard drive from a different PC if so the recovery partition to RESTORE from is not there unless it came from the same model PC as yours. This will not and even if windows would load it would give you a BSOD (blue screen of death) If you are going to use a different that is fine BUT the hard drive will need to be formatted and then you can install the OS. #1... Your PC will have a COA / key that is what you use to reinstall windows. The key is 25 digits (5 groups of 5 letters & numbers) This can be anywhere on the outside the case. #2... If you made the restore disc's from your PC you can use these to install the OS just like it was out of the factory. If you do not have them you can use / borrow a windows disc and use your COA to install windows then you will have to get the drivers from HP to install your hardware (i.e NETWORK card, sound, video etc) #3...are you still getting any errors? Quote from: vixen24 on July 31, 2012, 02:46:05 AM i already tried replacing the cmos battery but before i can press any other key it always prompts me hit f1 -to save first the updated drives and when the pc reboot again i cant hit any other key again.i already tried it many times.is there a way to escape the pc from scanning the hardware attached to the pc?or not saving the said componentsso these are gone? #4... Are you going to be reinstalling XP again I am assuming? It very well may be that the original / old hard drive has bad sectors so you will not see some of the directory's Quote from: vixen24 on August 13, 2012, 12:17:13 AM since im really having a great trouble with my mouse and keyboard, i tried to install the hard disk to another pc.a notification appeared tells that a file had been corrupt.the hal.dll..i tried to go to recovery console to copy the missing file to drive c but a notification appeared cannot find the file.i even tried to make the hard disk slave to open the disk but i cannot find the windows folder.most of the DC7100 out of the factory used sata hard drives so there is no jumper(s) to worry about so putting it in another PC as a slave shouldn't be an issue so you can get your data off. If the hal.dll is corrupt you would have to copy that file of a XP cd to your hard drive. But honestly it is just much easier to do a clean install on the HD (hard drive) and be DONE with it. Hopefully this helps, please let us know how you make out. Mike |
