Solve : Keyboard Dramas?

Answer»

Can anyone help me out with a problem Im having when I boot my computer up. I am running Win XP and have broadband ADSL internet running via ethernet and sometimes when I start up and get to the log on screen asking for password, the keyboard doesn't work and I have to reboot. The only way I have been able to get on is by using the F5 key on boot up and requesting to use the last known good configuration as a start up.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Soemtimes when I start up the keyboard works fine. Is this a configuration problem or a hardware issue???Is this a woreless keyboard? Also, do you have an antivirus program installed?

[GLB]Flame[/glb]First always check (even if you think it's okay) the keyboard input into the back of the computer (assuming it's not wireless) and if it's wireless, make sure that the receiver is properly plugged in in back.  90% of these types of problems are wire issues.

Otherwise, simply try another keybaord (you should try the most basic keyboard you can get -- perhaps only $9.00 for a basic, simple keyboard).

DOUBTFULLY is it, but possibly it is, the PS2 connector on your motherboard if at some point the keyboard was plugged in or taken out in a forced manner.  But that's something you'll find out if other keyboards don't work.  Also, there is an "on-screen"keyboard.  See if that works.  All these things should narrow down the problem.do you have any problems with your mouse..and does the num lock light on the keyboard stay on??have you changed your  graphics card?It is a packard bell SK-2315 keyboard and connects via USB

I have changed graphics card but some TIME ago and things have worked ok.

I have recently installed XP from MEhttp://support.packardbell.com/uk/mypc/?acquire=search&keyword=SK-2315%20keyboard%20%20winxp%20driverTry using a USB to PS2 converter and going into your PS2 port on your computer.  See what that does.  Packard Bell?  I thought they went out of business...but apparently they operate in other countries but no longer in US.  Hmmm.  Interesting.
