Solve : keyboard/mouse problems? |
|
Answer» ok...heres the situation. i got a compaq presario ez2207 with win98 given to me without a keyboard and mouse. i thought my old keyboard and mouse might work. WRONG!!! my keyboard and mouse have ps/2 jacks on them, and for some stupid reason the dumb ppl at compaq decided not to put ps/2 jacks on their computer, instead they only have usb ports. so i go buy a usb keyboard and mouse only to find out i need to install drivers for them....how the f*** do u install drivers for a mouse and keyboard when u need them to click "install" on the hardware wizard screen??? and the stupid thing is, they both work when i run win98 in safe mode *censored* i guess the best option is to install windows xp. Only if the machine has enough horsepower (RAM) to make it enjoyable and you have $100+ to shell out for XP. Are we sure it is not a hardware problem? If it is no version of Windows will fix that! If the keyboard works OK in DOS mode, then all you need is a mouse driver. There's a bootdisk here that loads real mode mouse and CD drivers. Boot from this with a CD in the drive unit and dir the CD. This will prove keyboard, mouse and CD functionality in one fell swoop. The first CD unit will be loaded at V: so a few simple tests would be to TYPE: edit - The DOS editor will open and you should be able to move the mouse cursor. dir v: - This should list the contents of the first CD unit. There is no machine specific Windows mouse driver for this box.I'm a new user here. Q. What do you think is going on when you merrily hit the keys and nothing is showing up on the monitor? thanks. :-/Quote I'm a new user here. Can you start a new thread detailing your problems please midavenue? I'm not sure how to start a new thread. I'm afraid I have no more details. This happened last night to a friend. She evidently must have been clicking on 'something' before this. I tried to click on the keyboard and nothing showed up on the monitor. ThanksTo start a new thread, click here and then click on the "Start New Topic" button. It's considered bad manners to hijack someone elses thread and it serves to confuse everyone.I understand and apologize. Have started new thread. No problem! hey thanks alot backdated ill be sure to give it a shot....right after a buy a new fan...the power supply fan konked out and now after 5 minutes the p.s. overheats and shuts down. WHEN WILL IT ALL END??? p.s. will i be able to make a floppy boot disk out of this? its small enough to FIT on a floppy (i just want to be sure, my pos computer im on right now doesnt have a cd burner) |
