Answer» I'm sure this whole problem started by downloadin some sort of virus and it's being doing ma head in ever since! Basically when the laptop is turned on it loads up as supposed to, even loadin passed the windows XP loading screen, but after that it just restarts itself. This is a continuous process and extremely irritating. I tried booting the Windows XP CD but once the key is pressed to boot the CD, the COMPUTER just hangs with the message Thanks, but is there no other solution that will get my laptop working again? You appear to have a problem with your CD disk,CD-rom.or hard DRIVE. I was pointing out a way to save the information on your hard drive. You said"How on earth can I get access to my files on the Laptop because I really can't lose what's on it."Have you tried hitting f8 key multiple times to get into safe mode??Quote from: street1 on November 21, 2007, 05:41:19 AM Quote from: Dudweiser on November 20, 2007, 04:36:02 PMThanks, but is there no other solution that will get my laptop working again? that could mean that he want to see the files on his laptop or wants to see the files from his laptop, im assuming he wants to see the ON his laptop... anyway sounds like the same think that happened to my computer, I never got it to work but i just got a new HDD, the old one was crap anyway. i guess copy the files from UR HDD onto another HDD and install the new one into your computer.you can do that by getting an 2.5 inch to a STANDARD ide plug transformer. this allows you to connect your laptops hdd as a secondry drive on a desktop computer and copy asll of the data. a bit of mucking around with the bios may be requiredQuote from: Dudweiser on November 20, 2007, 04:19:46 PM How on earth can I get access to my files on the Laptop because I really can't lose what's on it. If your files are really that important, it's usually best to back them up before mucking around with the hard drive. It bothers me that you were unable to boot from the CD drive, but ignoring that for the moment, you can continue your efforts to boot from the hard drive. Power up the laptop, tapping the F8 key about once per second (or wait for the keyboard LEDs to flash and then tap the F8 key). Hopefully you'll get the Windows Advanced Options MENU displayed. Attempt to boot using the normal "Safe Mode" option. Note any error messages that appear and post them here. If not successful and no error messages, repeat the process selecting "Last known good configuration". Note any error messages and post them here. If not successful and no error messages, repeat the process selecting "Disable automatic restart on system failure". Hopefully you'll stop on a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Copy the exact error message text and numbers and post them here. If none of the above yield a positive result or error messages, post back and we'll move on to something else. |
