Solve : Laptop keeps crashing.?

Answer»

Hi,

I'm new to this site and HOPE I'm posting in the right place.

I have an Acer 5610 laptop with Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3 installed.

A couple days ago I was trying to put some video clips (from a Sony SR55EE - which I have done numerous times before) onto a disc when my laptop crashed. A BLUE screen came up saying 'Windows has encountered an error' or something; it went to fast to read it all. The laptop restarted so I tried again. Same thing happened...several times. This then caused a registry error.

I got the registry error fixed and today I thought I'd have another go at creating a disc. Laptop crashed again. I uninstalled the Sony software and re-installed it. No help it continues to crash every time.

I thought I would take it into a shop to get it fixed so I decided to back up my files onto disc. Again it crashed (the same blue screen every time).

Now I don't know what to do. I can't back-up, system restore won't WORK, I can't do anything.

Could it be a problem with the tray where the disc goes?
Do I have to reformat and hence lose everything?

PLEASE HELP. I'M GOING INSANE

Thanks

Rachel

ps please use basic language when replying because I ain't that computer literate!!!Laptops aren't my forte, but it sounds like the CD drive went out and is making BSOD's when writing.

May end up having to replace the drive.BSODs???Sorry.... Blue Screen Of DeathHave you tried performing a System Restore in Safe Mode?

If it doens't work, get a Windows XP CD and perform a http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm.*** 1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab (Vista: click Advanced system settings).
3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary NUMBER of times.
5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

*** Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your NEXT reply.

I done a restore in Safe Mode. It didn't help. I now appear to have lost all my documents, and favourites and when I tried to UNDO the restore, there is no UNDO RESTORE option.

ARGHHHH HELP
System Restore will never do this, because it deals only with system files. You must have some other problems. How exactly did you "fix" the Registry error ? ?
