Answer» How do I fix my laptop? A registry fixer. Uhh ohhhhh. What registry fixer? You used it before or after these problems started? As I understand your post, you tried that as a troubleshooting step to try to resolve the problem, in other words, after the problem started. Is that right? Some more info about your computer could be helpful, too. What make and model? Specs, such as processor, RAM, and hard drive? What protection apps (VIRUS, spyware, firewall) are you using? Did you make any changes (install or remove software, hardware changes) just before the problem started?I used a programme i downloaded called advanced total care to diagnose and restore problems. This was after the initial problem had occurred and after I found I couldn't fix it by the usual troubleshooting, updating/rolling back drivers technique. It didn't fix the problem and hasn't caused any others so I presume it's a moot point and can be ignored. I hadn't made any changes, downloaded or installed anything for at least a fortnight before the problem occurred. It's an old laptop but I'd like to get another 8 months out of it before the prices drop again in the New Year. Xp Home Edition version 2002 service pack 3 Ei System 3082 CPU Intel® Celeron® M 380 (1.60 GHz) Chipset SiS 661 Chipset Memory 256MB DDR SODIMM Hard Drive 40 GB NB hard drive I use NORTON and have a medium level firewall. I don't download lots of crap and just use the laptop for word processing, emails and internet. I downloaded avast and had 1 infected MUSIC file which i hadn't played in over a year, sent to chest and deleted that. I have Hijackthis logs - but i got the impression I wasn't supposed to post them anywhere other than the hijackthis forum. Is this correct? Also, clicking to refresh an internet page simply makes it load blank, if I HOLD down the function key whilst clicking - it loads. To get anything done at the moment, and to prevent open applications closing I have to keep the function or control buton held down. |
