Answer» If you havent tried finding out what drive it is at this point I would.Quote So you get to the 3rd screen right? No, it never makes it to the third screen. The screen it freezes on is not on that website, but if it were it would be between screen 2 and 3. HERE is the microsoft help page for this problem, which so FAR has not helped me. Quote If you havent tried finding out what drive it is at this point I would. I found out it was a Hitachi HDD and I have (to my knowledge) cleaned it out. This has not solved my problem, unless I am missing something here. I used a Hitachi boot CD thing from their manufacturer (Drive Fitness Tool), and the "erase disk" feature did not WORK because it said I had a "Non HGST" hard drive ( dont know what that means). So I used Darik's Boot & Nuke to erase it all, but the original problem is still there.Out of interest have you tried putting win98 back on it? Remember you would have to FORMAT with a boot disk first. The windows help page you found seems to address the problem so you should work through that as much as you can including the link to specifying other HALs.Can you help me out on the same thing? I have a gateway and i did the system restore last night and the restore seemed to go through fine. Then it restarted and it GOES into loading windows xp back on it. When the status bar gets to about halfway, it freezes up on me. PLS HELP! I'm encountering the same problem. boots from CD at start up starts loading files freezes at set-up is starting windows I TRIED TO DO KILLDISK and CLEANED my HDD, but it sill freezes at setup is starting windows. I never get to the MENU where you pick the partitions and do a fesh install. I am also using a HITACHI HDD. ~~~ SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE! =( You need to start a new thread. |
