Solve : Laptop Won't Start!?

Answer»

Can someone please help me. I am fairly good on computers but I don't have any idea where to start with this. My wife's laptop has worked fine for two years. She was using it one DAY like she normally does and then TURNED it off without any problems. The next day she went to start it and it will not do anything.

It's running off of an AC cord and the power light comes on when you press the power key to start it up. From there it doesn't make any sounds and the screen does not come up with anything. Also the disc drive won't open, kinda like it's not getting power but the power light is on.

Any advise?I guess it would help you all if I told you what kind of computer it was. It's a Compaq Evo N800c running Windows XP. SORRY about that.Sounds to me like the motherboard took a dump.

Do you have an extended warranty on it? If so take ADVANTAGE of it. If not start looking for another laptop for you wife.

A couple of options...pull the hard drive & battery out and see if it boots. A last resort is to remove the CMOS battery. Both will probably be fruitless but at least give it a try.

Wish there was better news for you.

I know you say the laptop power LED is LIT but:

1. To eliminate the battery as the problem, disconnect and remove it from the laptop; then attempt to boot using the AC/DC converter power cord.

2. Also if you have a voltmeter you could test to see that the proper DC voltage is being supplied by the AC/DC converter power cord. Sometimes these power cords go bad.

Is it the original power cord for the laptop with the proper voltage/amperage rating?
