Solve : Links problem?

Answer»

I am on a particular web page (any web page) and I click a link and I see the hour glass etc. but it never seems to make the connection link. I click stop and notice that the link I wanted shows up in the address bar. I highlite the address in the address bar and hit enter and WALLA I get my link that way and fairly fast also. What do you think is going on?Your OS? Scanned for Viruses & Spyware Lately? DONE anything damaging to your computer?OS is Win 98 and yes last night I scanned with AVG, Spybot search and destroy and Ad Aware SE.Hit Enter without highlighting the address bar. Does it still load quickly the second TIME?

Do you have a new ISP? Have you made any changes to your hardware/software recently, or have you noticed any other problems or strange behaviour?

Which browser are you using? Have you TRIED another?

Have you checked your security settings to make sure they aren't changed or too high (firewall, internet, virus scanners...)?

Have you checked to make sure you have sufficient drive space (10-20% or more) available. Are you running many/any other processes/applications?

Same ISP I have had for years.

When I click stop then click enter it automatically highlights then I get the link.

No changes to hardware or software.

What is happening now is the only strange behaviour.

Microsoft IE browser.

No firewall on this win98

As mentioned above I have: Ad Aware SE Personal, and spybot search and destroy

I have 2.68 GB LEFT on a 4 GB HD

192 MB of ram

at this moment of computer time I am using 52% of resources

Not sure where I security settings are but will look around.
Lets see: went to internet options and clicked the security tap and it is set for medium.

Based on your answers, I'd SAY you should be in good shape.

You might want to try reinstalling IE or trying another browser such as FireFox (free download) or Opera.

It's difficult to keep up with all the fixes and issues with IE (almost daily). Personally I've given up the effort.
