Solve : listening to 2 sound files at once?

Answer» HI everyone...I have a question...im running windows 98 and i have callwave...my question is..how do i hear a callwave msg and play pogo at the same time...or, how do i play winamp and pogo and hear sounds from both of them at the same time..i KNOW there is something about some kind of sound card, but, i thought there was another option to hear 2 diff sound files at once?

thank you:)As far as I know they should play simutaniuosly without issue already. What do you hear when you try to play two sounds at once?If I am in a pogo game room, i hear the pogo sounds, and if i try to listen to music at the same time, i get an error box that says the sound card is in use...if i am listening to music (not in a game room) and a call COMES in to my callwave, it says the sound card is in use, to close out everything and then listen to the message. You MAY be best to buy a dedicated sound card then, it sounds like you have integrated sound and it can't handle two things at once.
If you're using Windows 98 you'll need to make sure that drivers are available.Did this EVER work as you envision it? Some programs demand access to the sound driver and do not share. Quote

and when they dont get that access they kick and scream and then BSOD

I have used more than one sound card in my machine before. Perhaps this could solve your problem?... youd have to merge the outputs physically with a Y-Cable in reverse... if you know what I mean by that. I havnt poke around too much with it but Im pretty sure if you open up winamp (RAM EATER) and then go to your sound settings (right-click on the speaker in your system tray and Goto "adjust audio properties") and change what audio playback device your system is using under the audio tab and then open up pogo, whatever program was using the speakers before the change will use the first device and then anything you open after that will use the second device that you selected... know what I mean? Note: changing pages does not mean its a new program, you need to physically open the browser again for it to be a new program process.im a little confused on it all...i dont know if it ever worked, i coulda sworn it did at one time...lol...i know what u all are saying, but, i dont wanna mess w/ anything. i appreciate all the help...i actually deleted winamp since finding out its a ram hog...dont need that...

thanks again, everyone
