Answer» I have always had the login screen (XP Professional) with an user name and then I'd hit "Enter" as there was no password. The other day I turned it on and hit "Enter" and it said incorrect password. I know I was tinkering in the Users control panel the other day, but I canceled out of the menus... so now I dumbfounded
I am locked out of my own computer...
Thanks in advance for any help. You must have changed the password to be non-blank. Either that or you are trying to login as a different user than you normally do. Check the USERNAME and make sure it is correct.
If so, then try logging in as Administrator with no password and then go and change your user name password to something you can remember.restart the computer with the PROBLEMS, press F8 till it beeps you will be presented with a list of options , safe mode ect.. select any of the "safe mode" options , their might be one with "with networking" ect at the logon box type administrator , by default this will have no password and is a different administrator then in normal windows, log into that.. go to control panel, then users.. find the account with the password and "remove password"okay, so the Administrator login worked, but it looks like I somehow deleted the user that I originally was logging in as, except all the files are still there, C:\DOCUMENTS and Setting\sandra.SAWYERS . Of course I have to go LOOKING for them...not just straight to My Documents where they were.
But is doesn't load those settings. This computer I got was used and it had very basic THINGS on it, and the user accout that I was using was the one that was already set up on it. I think the computer was networked with other computers. But I am not sure if tinkered with some network setting that threw everything off or what.
Is there any way to attach those setting to the Admin user profile?
Thanks again for your helpCreate a new user, name it anything you want.
Log out, log in as that user.
Log out again and log in as administrator.
go to Start, Run, Regedit
Press F3 and type ProfileImagePath then click find.
It will take you to a list of profiles, find the one that has a ProfileImagePath that has the name of the user you just created in it. Double click on that ProfileImatePath entry and change it to sandra.sawyers. Now close regedit and reboot. Log in as your new users. That should do it.
