Answer»

I have just formated my hard drive as I want to install windows xp. I have to reload my win 98 2nd ed as my win xp home disk is a upgrade. this is the FIRST time doing this and was wondering if there is anything I need to do or any tips that you can give me??First, I strongly recommend not upgrading to XP from 98.  I THINK you'll encounter issues later on.  If you still plan to then the install should be fine.  Install your 98 as usual then upgrade.Actually, there is no need to install Win98 first. Just install the XP disk; you will be required to prove you have an upgradable product, put in the Win98 disk at this time, and then the XP install will continue as normal.

Make sure you have GOT the drivers for your devices. You're better off getting them from the manufacturer's website rather than Microsoft. Install all your antivirus and antispy programs before you even think of getting online.

Once you get online, go to the Microsoft Update site and download all the high priority updates, use your discretion for the OPTIONAL updates. After that you should be home free, and you can install all your software.

Good luck. If you run into any PROBLEMS, get back to us. There are many people here who can help. Thanks for the info Sidewinder.  I wasn't aware that an XP upgrade was a full version.
