horn was missing from my toolbar    :-?  :-? :-?

did I accidently delete the sound driver ??

Emachine, 20 gb hd, 128 mb memory, yamaha AC-XG audio device,
real player (32 bit) version 7.0.0.1168

have no idea what happened  :-? I'm clueless  [smiley=bath.gif[smiley=angry.gif]Which operating system are you using? Do you recall making any system-wide changes? Are there any other users on this COMPUTER? Do you have virus and Spyware protection?

no sound card listed in control panel that I can see :-? :-? :-?But is the sound working? What MODEL # is the computer? What kind of sound card is in there?  If unsure, run Everest and find out.

there is sound at all   :-? Intel 82801 AA I/O controller hub-AC'97 Audio Adapter (B-1)  is NOT the same as

yamaha AC-XG audio device

which you listed in your first post.

If the Yamaha is showing in device manager, delete it and reboot the machine.took the yamaha off
when it rebooted a window came up asking about drivers
I have no 98 disk so I followed instructions
it said can find no driver
:-? :-? :-?You have no O/S CD? That can be a problem for a lot of reasons.

What instructions did you follow? Did it list the AC97 sound CHIP as what it was trying to install?
no cd came with it . guess that want you get when you get a PC at a computer shop
rather than a computer store where you twice the price .

no certain driver was mentioned

a window came on asking about a driver
since I have no 98 cd I pressed next
it then asked if I wanted it to search for a driver
pressed next after a few minutes it reported that it could not
find a drver I then closed the window  :-? :-?What if you take it to the shop long enough to get them to install this from one of their 98 CD's? It would also be a great time to ask them why you didn't get one.wish I could tale it inamsorry if I gave you the impreesion that this PC was new
BOUGHT it several years AGO .where I bought it is in a city over 120 miles away
live in the country now am retired and disabled . everything else works fine so I can live without sound . but having it was nice .
thanks for your help and adviceJust use Google to find your drivers
You have everything you need.
Win98SE and Intel 82801 AA I/O controller hub-AC'97 Audio Adapter (B-1)
