somehow we LOST the capability to install NEW hardware. how do you get this back? :-/This is too vague - what computer, what version of Windows, what are you trying to do and any specifics are helpful.sorry was HALF asleep when I wrote this earlier. anyway this is a hp PAVILION a365c with windows xp home version. what I'm trying to do is reload my scanner software to put it back on my system. also I have a flash usb that when I plug it in now won't reconize new hardware installed/get a message not formatted?Remove the hardware from the device manager and follow the instructions of the manual that came with the USB device.I uninstalled everything for the scanner, with the USB unplugged. Then i went back and downloaded the DRIVER and applications from the canon website. The problem is when i reconnet the USB cord the computer doesn't have that pop up that says "Found New Hardware Wizard".
