Answer» For some reason Windows is asking for a password to start up and I don't have it. HP wants $50 to walk me through the steps to log back on but it's 5 years old and we're getting a new one soon so I don't want to spend the money on it. I was thinking I could start it in safe mode and use the system restore and go back a day or two but safe mode asks for a password also. Can someone tell me a way I can log on or by-pass the password?
Thanks!!!What password? The BIOS password or the password to login to your account in Windows?I think it's the password to log unto windows. What's the BIOS password? If you get a password prompt as soon as the computer starts... it's the bios password. If it's a password at the windows WELCOME screen, it's the login password.
Speaking of Windows... what version of Windows is on the computer?Okay, it's the windows password and it's XP.Have you TRIED login to the Administrator account in safe mode? From there you're able to reset the password.Tried that, it's still asking for a password.http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/
follow the directions at this site to create a BOOTABLE disk and SET your password back to blank for administrator.
You will need to burn a CD or boot off of a floppy.
DaveIsn't that for windows NT or will it WORK on XP?http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/passrecovery.htm
