Answer» I have an old laptop with windows Me that my wife uses when I take the new laptop with me on biz trips. I recently had comcast install broadband in my home. Works fine with the newer laptop, but the old one won't connect. Comcast tech said to disconnect POWER from UNIT, wait minute and reconnect. He said that should allow the unit to read the different laptop... didn't work. Then he had me try ipconfig, iprenew and iprelease. Each time my IP address came up all ZERO's. Comcast tech said I needed to restore ip address, but he couldn't help. Any ideas? Please give detailed instructions. Thanks JRPWhat order did he have you do the IP Renew and Release in? Be sure its: ipconfig /release then ipconfig /all (not the other way around)
Also, on your PREVIOUS Internet connection, did you use an Ethernet connection to your old Windows ME (Millennium Edition) laptop? Or was it a USB or DialUp connection?

Before comcast I used dialup Okay, when you switched to Comcast, did you install an Ethernet card into your computer? Or was there one existing already?
Possible causes: Ethernet card dysfunctional Ethernet card drivers not correct one was already thereOP accidentally emailed reply:
