Solve : Media error????

Answer»

i have just acquired an old computer.  Its specs are:
-Dell
-Pentium 3: 550 MHz
-256 MB ECC SDRAM
-8 MN SGRAM(video memory)

I do not know the windows version yet because it is not booting correctly.  when it goes to boot, it first says:

"3Com PXE, version 0.99n
Copyright (C) 1997,1998 Intel Corporation.  All Rights Reserved.

(C) Copyright 1999 Lanworks Technologies Co. a subsidiary of 3Com Corporation

PXE-E61: Media TEst Failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE

Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility
"

I pressed F1 and it just gave the same error.  I pressed F2 but wasn't able to figure out how to fix it.  Does anyone know how to get this computer up and running?  Help is much appreciated and thanks in advance.Every Dell has a Service Tag Number.  It's on the back or SIDE.  Post it here.what's it for?  Can i get help from Dell or something? Yes.  Website will tell hardware configuration when they SHIPPED computer, what version of Windows was installed, etc.  It will also tell the Model Number, which you did not provide.

Error messages indicate a hardware failure of some SORT.  Maybe an onboard ethernet, which can be turned off in the BIOS, press F2 for setup utility (BIOS).
The computer is set up to boot from a network drive. PXE (pixie) is built into the lan card, and it is looking for boot drive and can't find it. You might not have an actual OS on the computer. You can try to disable it in bios, or remove the lan card, to see if it will boot LOCAL. If it does, it will likely be to a DOS prompt.my media player wont work. I tried downloading a new one but it still wont work. it has trouble installing it
