Solve : Media Player 11 disconnects Internet access/switches off firewall?

Answer»

Anytime I install Windows Media Player 11 on my PC, it works for a fewdays and then when I start it, it disturbs my Internet access and firewall. The two are virtually switched off and Windows gives me an error message "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" and gives me the OPTION of SENDING an error report to Microsoft or not. I must also mention that I downloaded the Player a few years ago. I do not know whether it has has changed since then, or whether I need a special file to add to it.
What is the meaning of this error message and how can I stop this thing from happening?
Running XP SP2, 512MB RAM, PIIITry reinstalling Media Player 11 from the SOURCE:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspxYou mean re-download?Yes, go to that site, download and install it. See if that helps.I have re-downloaded it and re-installed it; the problem still occurs. As soon as I start the Media Player it give s me the error message after about 7 seconds and then messes up my firewall and Internet Connection. If I keep my hands off the player the PC works without problems.
I don't know whether this will help, but I seem to have the same problem when I try to install IE7: the same errror message appears.Avoid using Windows Media Player - ONE of the worst application ever.
Try VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Like your judgement...I have the Video Lan Player, just that it seemed to me that the Media Player has more sound options, and the problem doesn't seem to occur with Media Player 10Well, for videos, I use VLC, but for music, I use Winamp.
