Answer» I have a problem with Windows XP. When I log on, my start menu, taskbar etc shows, but then I get a notification saying that a .dll file is missing (I can't remember what it's called, but I know it's in Win32) and my menu bar simply dissapears, along with all desktop icons. Also pressing the Windows Start Menu button on my keyboard does nothing, and it is impossible for me to run any applications as when I minimise them I cannot re-open them. I have tried using the CTRL-ALT-DELETE to switch tasks, but it says "This has been disabled by your administrator" when I am the administrator :-S
I recently had a TROJAN virus download to my computer through Limewire, and Norton said that it had been deleted (I also used A-squared to scan for viruses which I deleted, and CC Cleaner to check for INCORRECT registry values). I have previously tried to use the System Restore to fix any of these PROBLEMS, but no matter which date I try it fails every time.
Can someone please help? This is my only pc :-/Next time it happens, write down the name of the file it says it's missing. Then search in the microsoft website to see if they have the file available for download. Or google it, and you might find the answer on a site - with step by step. But first, get the name of the missing file and post here again, EVERYONE will try to help you and give their 2 CENTS worth. Good luck!
ASlaterOkay, I just restarted and it's: C:\WINDOWS\system32\fhqlvnws.dll
thanks for helping! Are you sure you wrote it down correctly? I don't recognize that file, and I can't find any reference to it...anywhere. I have a feeling that you downloaded more than just a trojan. Maybe I'm wrong, but to be on the safe side...if you can, update your anti-virus, reboot in Safe Mode, and do a full-system scan. Also...while in Safe Mode, does the same problem still persist?
