Solve : Mic input on Toshiba laptop - mono or stereo??

Answer»

Can anybody tell me if the microphone input on a Toshiba laptop is mono or stereo? I want to use it to transfer some old cassettes to cd, but it's no good if it's only a mono input, which I suspect is the case.Read here -> http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Transferring_tapes_and_records_to_computer_or_CDMost mic ports that I have encountered are Mono, you need an audio input, if you want stereo Check the manual. There MAY be a way to specify stereo input. Which Toshiba? It's a Toshiba Satellite, Windows Vista. There's nothing in the manual about the mic input - at LEAST the printed one which came with the computer.Re: audio input, osmo, I don't have one on my laptop. Can I hook some device up & use the USB input? What should I use?
Maybe the website you have given me will tell me this, jason2074, but I haven't had chance to read it all yet. Thanks for the info tho'.There's an awful lotta different Toshiba Sattelites...I have a Toshiba Satellite 505 S6005. The mike input on the chassis is a mono input, but if you use the plug in adapter I'm pretty sure it will accept a stereo input. If not, you can try looking into a USB mike, with software driver support for a dual channel input.

Hope this helps.Quote

from TosibaThanks for your reply, Seaview123. What do you mean by a plug-in adapter? Where would you plug it in to? The USB input?Check out this USB sound card box... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4115644&CatId=4261

It is just under $25 and will do WAY more then what you need to, but I think this is what he was talking about

Any plugin adapter is not gonna change the jacks output...if it's mono...it's mono...
Check your Manual...
