Solve : Mic not working in Windows xp sp3?

Answer»

Hi to all, I recently update my windows xp sp2 to sp3 but it has a problem my MIC doesn't work in sp3, I tried to use the mic to my friends computer who's using Sp2 and the mic is working fine, I also check the mic volume & if it is mute but it seems that all the settings are correct. Im just wondering why my mic won't work in sp 3.

Any help is highly appreciated thanks in advance....What's it look like in Device MANAGER?

click START, right-click "my computer", click "properties", hardware tab, device manager

Do you see any errors anywhere? yellow exclamation marks, red X's ?

Hi, thanks for your reply. There is no error in the device manager no special symbols like the x nor ! mark.Go back into Device Manager, find your mic, right click on it, click "properties", click on the "driver" tab and click on "roll back driver".... Perhaps a new driver was installed with the installation of service pack 3..

The "roll back driver" button will force Windows to use your old driver..Even better, reinstall your sound driver.Quote from: ADG on September 06, 2009, 04:09:08 PM

Even better, reinstall your sound driver.

I've never used a mic so I assumed there would be a "mic" listing in device manager, but since the sound driver (Realtek AC97) driver controls audio output and input, your SUGGESTION is probably more accurate..

At any rate, if reinstalling it doesn't work, try rolling back..

Guys I didn't see the mic in the device manager, I also tried to reinstall the sound driver but STILL no success, my mic is not working with windows xp sp3, It's working fine in my friends computer using win xp sp2....

Does any one here knows how to solve the mic issue in windows xp sp3 ?
maybe there is a step here that you haven't tried yet..
