Solve : Microsoft Ends win xp coverage??

Answer»

Ok So I tried to install xp on my tower when I recieved it but when installing SP2 I noticed the setup skiped one part. THe part were the music plays and It setsup the computer like admin name and to register with microsoft or not to turn auto updates on or off. SO I cleanned the hdd and installed SP3 and It worked But when I tried yesterday On my cousins Dell Inspiron laptop 1150 I skipped that part too. I just wanted to know did my disks turn bad or did microsoft end support?Did you use the same Win XP disc and same product key to install Windows on both computers? From Information Week.

In an unprecedented move, Microsoft has committed to providing support services for its soon to be retired Windows XP through 2014 -- a full 13 years after the operating system was ORIGINALLY released.

In a letter sent to customers this week, Microsoft SENIOR VP Bill Veghte said the software maker will provide security patches "and other critical updates" for Windows XP until April, 2014.

On how many computers are you installing XP with these disks? Are they burned or regular pressed install disks?
I have the original disks but so they wouldn't get damaged I copied them and used the copies. They are a little damaged maybe I should destroy these and make some new ones. I just don't want the originals to get damaged. The only time I've ever seen the "let's get started" prompts (firewall and stuff) skipped is with pirate copies of XP or slipstreamed versions with that feature purposely taken out.

a LEGIT XP install will never skip it under normal circumstances. Quote from: comda on May 30, 2010, 04:04:41 PM

They don't get damaged from being used, if you do it properly.
