Answer» I was removing spyware off one of my comps the other day and as I was removing one of them, it some how deleted either the hemis.sys or config.sys so now when I boot it up it gives an illegal operation as soon as I see the wallpaper ( this is win 98SE) and forces me to close and nothing has loaded so I can't do anything but shut down. I have the recovery cd from hp but it only gives the option to start computer with or without cd support, I also have the Microsoft 98SE boot floppy. So yeah I need help please.Boot from Win98SE floppy, then type: copy a:himem.sys c:\windowsmmmm nope I tried copying both other and still doesn't work, when the illegal operation pops up and I click on detail it says something about explorer, when I booted again this time with cd-support, I caught a quick glimpse of something about invalid lines in the config.sys line26-30, probably more but that was all I saw as it was moving so fast.Can you boot into safemode? Rename config.sys to config.old. Config.sys not required for Windows98.
