Solve : Missing vmm32.vxd?

Answer»

I'm trying to install Windows 98SE on an old Dell computer.  400khz processor, 64mb RAM.

After several restarts, the Windows 98 splash screen appears, then the screen GOES black and I'm INFORMED that the computer can't boot because the dmm32.vxd file is missing from the Windows system folder, and that I should restart the machine.

When I restart the machine, I can start in safe MODE.  When I GO to the system file CHECKER to extract the missing file,, the computer will not recognize my CD drive.

Checking the dmm32 folder with Windows explorer, it is indeed empty.

Any suggestions on how to get all the files to install? Try here: http://www.easydesksoftware.com/news/news10.htmHave a great vacation!

I do have some CD backups of files from way back - and possibly may have some from my 95 days anyways - OSR2c.

If you think or others think that file might be common to 95 and 98 then I'll do some digging and try and supply the file for you.vmm32.vxd is pretty nasty error, but not uncommon with Win 98.
Have a nice vacation
